The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that every child establishes a dental home by his/her 1st birthday. Your child’s first tooth is the perfect reminder that it is time to schedule an appointment with our office. Early prevention and detection will guarantee a bright and happy oral health future for your child. Your child will then be able to understand that going to the dentist is a fun and enjoyable experience.

What to Expect

The first visit will start with a review of your child’s medical and dental history and an initial examination, which includes “counting their teeth”. Digital x-rays are taken if deemed necessary, followed by oral hygiene instructions to emphasize proper oral health care. After a comprehensive examination of your child, any dental findings will be directly discussed with you.

For optimal communication, we will explain each of our procedures in terms your child can understand. We want to make your child’s first appointment a positive experience in order to set the tone for future appointments. If any dental findings indicate restorative treatment, then subsequent appointments can be scheduled.

During your child’s first visit we invite you to accompany your child into our treatment area. This allows you and your child to acclimate themselves with our staff and office. Future appointments that are scheduled for dental work (fillings, crowns, extractions, etc..) please allow us to accompany your child through the dental appointment. Dr. Robbins and her staff are specially trained in behavior management and request your child’s sole attention. This will allow your child to concentrate on what the doctor is doing and no other distractions for your child will exist.
